Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna Central Senatorial District are sharply divided over who becomes their senator in 2019.The seat is currently occupied by Senator Shehu Sani.
Party chairmen from all the seven local government areas in the zone, at the weekend, endorsed Malam Uba Sani to contest for the seat next year.
They said Uba Sani had performed well in ensuring discipline and unity within the party machinery by opening doors for wider consultation on how to move the APC forward.
However, the APC in Ward 6, Kaduna South, has faulted the endorsement of Uba Sani as replacement for Senator Shehu Sani.
The Ward 6 executives, in a statement by their Chairman, Abbas Anni, through the Publicity Secretary, Auwal Ibrahim Malami, described the endorsement as “a farce”.
“Ordinarily, we would not have dignified these characters with a response. However, for the fact that the dubious endorsement has generated reactions across the country, it is imperative to denounce this political mess.
“We wish to categorically state here that the endorsement of Uba Sani is a farce and should be completely disregarded by all and sundry. The APC has not in any way endorsed Uba Sani as the party’s senatorial candidate for Kaduna Central, and as a matter of fact, we don’t even know him.
“This purported endorsement is clearly part of the desperation of these people and their paymasters to orchestrate confusion that would lead to disrepute in the party.
“In this regard, we are passing a strong vote of confidence on Senator Shehu Sani. We equally enjoin him to remain steadfast in his legislative activities and the good work he is rendering to Kaduna Central constituents,” the statement said.
